Golden Anchor: Montereau Assisted Living Facility
One of the most meaningful aspects of our chapter’s dedication to Service for Sight is our ongoing partnership with the Montereau Assisted Living Facility. Each month, small groups of Delta Gammas spend quality time with the residents, many of whom are visually impaired. These visits go far beyond fulfilling volunteer hours—they're heartfelt moments of connection, compassion, and shared joy.
During our visits, we read aloud, play games like trivia or balloon ball, or simply sit and listen as residents share their stories. We lovingly refer to these interactions as our Golden Anchor visits, a cherished tradition that many sisters hold close throughout their Delta Gamma experience. These weekends have become a favorite for so many— a reminder of the power of empathy, community, and meaningful service.
Non-Service for Sight (NSFS) Volunteer Hours
In addition to Service for Sight, Delta Gamma members are encouraged to engage in volunteer work that extends beyond our national philanthropy. From supporting campus-wide service initiatives to getting involved in causes they’re personally passionate about, members are empowered to “Do Good” in any space where they feel called to serve. These experiences deepen connections within the broader community, foster lasting relationships, and embody Delta Gamma’s mission. Through NSFS hours, our members grow as leaders, neighbors, and compassionate change-makers.
Do Good Week
Each year, Do Good Week brings our motto to life by encouraging both members and alumni to actively engage with service and philanthropy. This past year, our efforts aligned with two significant awareness days: World Sight Day, October 10, and White Cane Day, October 15. These important dates provided meaningful opportunities to learn, advocate, and take action in support of the visually impaired community.
One of our standout projects during Do Good Week was a series of crafting nights, where members repurposed old T-shirts into tug toys for puppies training to become service dogs. These toys were donated to Anthem Service Dogs and Dog Training Elite, organizations that prepare service animals to support individuals with visual impairments. Every tug toy created held the potential to impact someone’s future independence and quality of life.
Other individual service initiatives included educational projects with local schools and early learning programs. Members read books about eye health, used tactile “puffy paint” coloring sheets, and decorated plastic glasses with feathers, jewels, and stickers—making eye health awareness fun and accessible for young children.
Additionally, members joined alumni in volunteering at Iron Gate, a nonprofit dedicated to providing meals for Tulsa’s homeless community.
Do Good Week is not just a list of service hours—it’s a living expression of why we joined Delta Gamma: to live with purpose, lead with heart, and serve with impact. These projects strengthen us as individuals and as a chapter, deepening our understanding of our mission and the real-world difference we’re making together.
